About the Department

The Williamsport Volunteer Fire – Emergency Medical Services Company, Inc. is a moderate sized suburban/rural combination emergency services organization. Located in Western Maryland we provide service to 42 square miles within Washington County, Maryland and Berkeley County, West Virginia, a mixture of residential, two major interstates, 2 medium sized industrial parks, and 20 miles of water front. Our current call volume based off our demographics generates approximately 2700 calls for service annually.

We operate 1- 2015 Pierce Engine, 1- 2011- Pierce Rescue Engine, 1- 1990 Piece Truck Co, 1- Brush Unit, 2- ALS Transport Units, 1- ATV, 1- Boat, 3- Support Units.

Training for members is held 1st, 2nd & 4th Monday’s with the Company Business Meeting held the 3rd Monday of each Month.

Volunteer members are supported by a career staff daily. Each day 2 EMS providers staff one ALS transport unit for a 24 hr. shift and a part time Fire Apparatus Operator is on duty from 7am to 5pm six days per week. Evening shifts for FAO’s are available weekly based off need. Our volunteers staff the station daily and respond from home.

Our funding comes from a variety of sources. We have various fund raisers annually to insure we can meet our operation budgets.

Our membership is broken into various classifications: Junior Firefighters age 10 to 15, Cadets Age 16 to 17, 18 and older senior members.

We foster a team and family environment. Family first is spoken often by the Chief. Training and Service to our community has been our highest priority. Anyone wanting a well-rounded emergency service experience will definitely see that being a member of our organization. Our administrative support membership is equally as important to our operation members. They handle an equal work load to makes our team solid. We work hard for what we have, our equipment, firehouse and apparatus. Our members have great pride in knowing we continue to serve our community every day since 1928.
