About the Department

The Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad was started in 1959 when a group of local men decided it was time for our community to have their own emergency transport to the hospital. Back then MVRS was only transportation. This quickly grew over the years to simply first aide into now the certifications for BLS and ALS we know today. MVRS is all volunteer, everyday Joes and Janes of the community that simply want to help others. Our first due land area is the largest in St. Mary’s County. Our dispatch rate has significantly increased every year, but we pride ourselves on getting prompt emergency care to our community.

Why Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad?

MVRS is family oriented. Families are always welcome! We are very proud of our family atmosphere. Training is provided at no charge to members. Many members have used the experience and training from MVRS to attend medical school and to start careers is the health care field or paid emergency services, while still volunteering for Mechanicsville. Members are able to start riding at age 16. Cadet program starts at age 14. It is never too late to start your volunteer career in emergency services! We are proud members of the RSVP program for retired members of all ages.
