About the Department

About Elkridge

Elkridge is a busy combination station in Howard County. The station runs two engines and two ambulances, one owned and run by the volunteers, the other by the career staff.  The station also runs a 100ft. tower which is volunteer owned but runs shared with the career staff. The station runs and average of 2800 calls annually. We are currently seeking members in the following categories:

Active Member:

These are the trained members who respond on fire, rescue, and medical calls. These members spend their time between calls, training, working around the station, maintaining equipment, and maintaining and cleaning apparatus. Members are issued gear to use, and the training is free. Active members also do various tasks around the station including tours, public education events and work on fundraising.

Associate Member:

Associate Members at the Elkridge Vol. Fire Dept. have historically been members of the community who brought their professional experience to help run the business of the department. These members help perform vital functions in the department that do not involve firefighting or emergency medical operations. These functions include fund raising, serving on the board of directors, and/or serving on committees.

Ladies Auxiliary:

The Ladies Auxiliary are a group of women from the community who work together to help promote and assist the Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department with social activities and financial support. The Ladies Auxiliary raise money by holding fundraisers such as bingos, bull roasts, golf tournaments, auctions, raffles and much more

Junior Firefighter:

In 1998 the Elkridge Volunteer Juniors firefighters’ program was created to give local youths from the ages of 9-16 the opportunity to learn some basic firefighting and emergency medical skills. By learning these skills, they also learned leadership, teamwork, and the values of being part of a community. Many of our juniors have graduated to the active side of the department and are volunteer firefighters and EMT’s. and some have made a career out of firefighting in Howard and adjoining counties.
