About the Department

The Borden Shaft Volunteer Fire Company No1 was organized in October 1938 and Chartered December 22, 1938. The first meeting was held in December 1938, at which point the Constitution and By-Laws were amended. We are known today as the Shaft Volunteer Fire Department. Our Moto is “Few Serving Many”. Today we operate five apparatus Truck 17, Rescue-Engine 17, Brush 17, Utility 17, and UTV-48. We hold weekly BINGOs on Wednesday and have Bash’s twice a year in April and October. We we have 53 members, 40 of those are active in one form or another. We have no less than 20 members work each of our BINGOs and turn out an average of 8 members per call.

Why Borden Shaft Volunteer Fire Department?

We are a very progressive volunteer fire department with members from every walk of life. We have a large female group of certified firefighters not to mentions a group of young and old seasoned firefighters. We have 18 certified EMTs and 3 paramedics. We train 3-4 drills a month not counting the Structural Collapse and Trench Rescue technical training we do. We also have several rope rescue technicians that train on a regular basis. We are a family that works together and plays together. That is our secret to turning out so many members on everything we do.
